Michael Hawton

MAPS, B.A., Grad’ Diploma in Applied Psychology, Diploma of Teaching (Primary), Post-Graduate Certificate in Business Administration. Michael Hawton is a registered Australian psychologist and a trained school teacher. He has written three books: The Anxiety Coach™ (translated into French), Talk Less Listen More™ (translated in to Chinese and Vietnamese) and Engaging Adolescents™ (translated into Chinese and Vietnamese). Michael has spoken at many international conferences and appeared on TV and radio show as an expert commentator for educators and parents. He is the father of two now adult children. He has featured on shows such as Today, Sunrise and The Project in New Zealand. He has been a guest on numerous ABC radio programs. With 30 years of experience working with children and families, including roles in private practice and with the United Nations in Seychelles and Vietnam, Michael has an extensive background in child welfare. Since 1990, he has prepared over 600 child welfare reports for the Family Court of Australia and the NSW Children’s Court Clinic. As one of Australia’s leading experts, Michael specialises in equipping professionals with the skills to navigate tough conversations, address child anxiety, and manage challenging teen behaviours. Michael teaches teachers, family workers, early years educators, and parents based the latest research in behavioural science. His work covers a range of topics such as: the development of positive cultural change in schools and organisations, how to have tough conversations in the workplace, improving self-regulation in children, reducing anxiety in children and adolescents and processing family of origin issues in child protection cases. Michael was recently engaged by The Australian Primary Principals’ Association to develop a survey which has been utilised nationally by Government, Independent and Catholic Schools to gain insight into childhood anxiety.
